Trade-Wind offers a ductless conversion kit which allows any of our 290 and 390 CFM products to be converted to a recirculating unit. The kits consist of charcoal pads and brackets to attach them to the filters. The charcoal purifies the air before it re-enters the kitchen. The duct work and vent cover are sold separately.

Trade-Wind® warrants its Trade-Wind® Kitchen and Outdoor Ventilation Products to the original user, to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for three (3) years from the date of purchase. You can learn more about our policy on the warranty page.

Visit the warranty page and fill out the simple form providing the model number, serial number, date of purchase, and brief description of the problem.

The model and serial number are listed on a sticker on the inside of the product that becomes visible after the filters are removed. Most often, the stickers are behind the filter on the right side of the product.

Every installation has many variables including the basics: distance between hood and cooking surface, island or wall installation, etc. You can learn more from our Determining CFM Requirements PDF. A good gauge is to take the BTU of your range and divide by 100 (65,000 BTU/100 = 650 CFM. This will give you the approximate CFM that you need for your range.

The frequency of cleaning is dependent upon use which varies by household. The recommended cleaning interval is every 2-3 months. If you cook a lot or cook with high amount of oil, you will need to clean them more often. Dripping grease signifies that the filters and filter track need to be clean more often.

To clean the filters, please remove them by holding the filter knobs and sliding the filters towards the front of the unit. This will allow the back to drop down. The filters can be cleaned in a dishwasher. For dishwasher cleaning, place the filters vertically on the bottom rack with the holes on the top and bottom to allow water and detergent to enter the top inlet holes and wash the grease out the exit holes.

WARNING: Do not use any cleaners with harsh chemicals such as bleach. This may corrode the stainless steel.

The commercial style baffle filters are designed in such a way that when the unit is exhausting, grease is trapped in the edges of the baffles.

Trade-Wind has decided to specialize in indoor and outdoor kitchen ventilation and has discontinued all bathroom ventilation. There is a limited selection of replacement parts for VQT units still available on the Parts Store.

Thank you for asking! For maximum performance, it is imperative that the correct roof or wall cap is used. There are two factors to consider – the size of the roof/wall cap and the shape.

Size: The area of the opening on the roof cap must be equal to or greater than the area of the duct. If you have a 10″ duct the area is 78.5 square inches. Therefore, the opening of the roof or wall cap must be 78.5 square inches, or larger. Any reduction in the area of the roof or wall cap correlates to a reduction in CFM and increase in noise.

Shape: Your Trade-Wind product will pull anywhere from 290 to 2,300 cubic feet of air per minute (CFM). When the air is being pulled out at such a high velocity it’s important for the roof or wall cap to be designed in such a way that makes it easy for the air to flow out naturally. If the cap has a flat top, the air will be rushing up quickly and then hit the 90 degree angle. The quick change in direction creates static pressure which reduces CFM and increases vibration.

We are sorry to that you are experiencing an issue with your Trade-Wind product. Please see below for a list of troubleshooting ideas.

1. The unit is not exhausting properly or is loud – this likely indicates an installation issue. Please verify the following:

  • The correct size of ducting was used from the unit all the way to the exit point?
  • The unit is not double dampered and the damper can open freely.
  • There is not a duct obstruction, nothing fell down the duct.
  • The correct roof or wall cap was used – see above for additional information.

If the problem persists after verifying the installation, please submit a warranty form and our Customer Service team will help determine what is wrong and provide a resolution.
